Mathematics

The intent of our mathematics curriculum is to provide children with a rich, balanced and progressive curriuculum. We build a foundation for understanding number, reasoning, thinking logically and problem solving with resilience so that they are fully prepared for the future. It is essential that these keystones of Mathematics are embedded throughout all strands of the National Curriculum. The structure of the mathematics curriculum across school shows clear progression in line with age related expectations. Teaching curriculum content in blocks allows children to explore skills and knowledge in depth and gain a secure understanding of particular subject matter. Key knowledge and skills are also revisited regularly allowing repetition to embed learning. A concrete, pictorial, abstract approach provides children with a clear structure in which they can develop their depth of understanding of mathematical concepts. 

The National Curriculum provides the basic structure for our mathematics teaching and we currently use White Rose Math. We use a variety of materials, teaching and learning styles. Children will be taught to use mental arithmetic, multiplication tables and other mathematical skills.
